Rainstorm Devastates Nsawam Adoagyiri , Residents Seek Assistance
The Akwane Dobro, Adipa, and Asiyaw electoral areas in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality have been severely affected by a destructive rainstorm.
According to the affected residents, the storm violently ripped off their roofing sheets while they were inside their homes.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon around 1 pm, coinciding with the onset of heavy rainfall. In response, some residents sought shelter outside or with their neighbours.
The victims are now appealing to the National Disaster Management Organization and other relevant stakeholders for urgent assistance.
One of the victims shared their harrowing experience with Opemsuo News Reporter, Johnson Owusu Aduomi, stating, “The storm lifted our roofing sheets with incredible force while we were still inside our rooms. We never expected it to be this devastating. We slept outside or sought refuge with our neighbours to ensure our safety.”
Hon. Joseph Yaw Konnor, the Assemblyman of the Adipa/Asiyaw electoral areas, confirmed the extent of the damage caused by the rainstorm. He expressed his concern for the affected residents and their immediate needs, as finding a place to sleep has become incredibly challenging.
Hon. Konnor also reported that while there were no casualties, one person sustained severe injuries from a falling cement block and has been admitted to the hospital.
On behalf of his constituents, he appealed to the Municipal Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament, and other relevant stakeholders for support and aid.
Torgbui Hunakpa, the Ayigbehene (traditional leader) of Akwane Dobro, expressed his astonishment at the unprecedented incident.
He stated that it was the first time such a calamity had befallen the community, and he dismissed the notion that it was a punishment from their gods, as similar incidents happen in other places.
