Parts Of Accra Experience Another Tremor
The Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) has announced parts of the Greater Accra region witnessed a minor earth tremor on Friday morning.
According to the Authority, the natural phenomenon had a magnitude of 2.8.
This comes almost three months after three occurred in the same region and parts of the Central Region.
The region experienced three consecutive earth tremors within the space of five hours in December last year.
Graphic reported that the first was experienced at 6:53 am in the western part of Accra, the second around 10 am at the same places and the third occurred at 11:53 am, 10 km from Gbawe.
The recent experience on Friday, March 10, 2023, happened at 9:49 am near James Town, the GGSA said.
The tremor was felt in High street, Ridge and other parts of Accra Central, according to the Authority.
“The epicentre is 1.5km offshore near James Town in the Greater Accra region”, a release from the Authority said.
It explained that the tremor was minor and was therefore not expected to cause damage.
Assuring the public of its continuous monitoring process to maximise safety and minimise risk, the Authority urged the public to remain calm.
Meanwhile, it noted that public education and sensitisation are underway.
