4 Independent MPs Will Join NDC Caucus; Parliament Informed

Parliament has been informed that the four independent candidates in the Ninth Parliament in the Fourth Republic will join the National Democratic Congress (NDC) side.

The four are Dr. Ohene Kwame Frimpong for Asante Akim North, Nandaya Yaw Stanley for Wulensi, Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly known as Kwame A Plus, for Gomoa Central, and Worlasi Kpeli for Afram Plains North.

During sittings on January 8, 2025, the Majority Chief Whip, Kwame Governs Agbodza, told the Speaker they had communicated their resolve to join the majority side and would subsequently formally communicate it to his office.

The House was also informed that, of the four, only one had formally written to the Caucus to confirm his decision to affiliate with the Majority.

“Mr Speaker, the four colleagues of ours who are in this House as independent MPs indeed communicated to our caucus to join us in doing business on the floor,” Governs said.

In response, Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin held the four would have to personally and officially communicate the decision to his office.

“So, nobody is going to do it for and on behalf; they have to communicate it individually to the Speaker,” Mr. Bagbin said.
