Lady Julia Presents Kente to Queen Máxima of the Netherlands

Lady Julia Osei Tutu, the wife of the Asantehene, has immortalised the memory of the visit of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, with a presentation of exquisite hand-woven Kente cloth.

Presenting the gift, Lady Julia highlighted the creativity and innovation behind local hand-woven textiles, which form a central pillar of Asante culture and heritage.

Her Royal Highness made the presentation during a private engagement with the Dutch Queen on November 4, 2026.

Accepting the gift, Queen Máxima commended the Asante Kingdom’s steadfast preservation of its rich cultural heritage over the centuries and expressed her sincere appreciation to Lady Julia.

The private audience preceded a series of engagements between the UN Special Advocate, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and several paramount chiefs and queens of the Asante Kingdom.

During the broader visit, Queen Máxima also presented official gifts to the Monarch, including a decorative Delft Blue ceramic wall plate featuring an appliquéd design and an autographed photograph of herself.

Her delegation included H.E. Jeroen Verheul, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ghana; Peter McConaghy, UNSGSA Senior Advisor; and Thys Hoekman, the Queen’s Private Secretary.
