British Museum Director Tours Yet-to-Be-Commissioned Manhyia Museum

The Director of the British Museum, Nicholas Cullinan, has toured the new Manhyia Arts and Culture Museum, which is expected to be commissioned soon.
The tour preceded his courtesy visit to the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on November 4, 2026.
He was led on the tour by Manhyia Palace Museum Director Ivor Agyeman-Duah and Curator Justice Brobbey.
He was shown key sections of the magnificent edifice, which is currently undergoing interior fitting and display setup, as well as the new storage and conservation labs under construction.
The tour of the new museum closely followed his inspection of the existing museum, where he was educated on Asante culture, traditions, and the chieftaincy institution.
His visit comes as the three-year renewable loan agreement with the Manhyia Palace approaches its next phase.
It may be recalled that in 2024, the British Museum loaned 15 artifacts that were looted from the Asante Kingdom during Anglo-Asante wars dating back 150 years.
Cullinan was accompanied by the Head of the Director’s Office, Horatio Lovering.
