Education Ministry Backs Ghana’s Bid To Host Industrial States In Africa

The Ministry of Education has declared its support for Ghana’s proposed hosting of the Industrial States in Africa (ISWA), a pan-African initiative designed to accelerate industrialisation, boost local manufacturing, and drive skills development and technology transfer across the continent.

The Ministry’s commitment was made known following a meeting between the Minister for Education and a delegation behind the ISWA initiative. Discussions centred on plans to integrate ISWA into the upcoming African Festival of Arts, Creativity and Culture (AFESTA).

AFESTA is scheduled to take place from December 9 to 11, with the ISWA programme proposed to be held on December 10 as a key feature of the festival.

According to the proponents, ISWA seeks to create a strategic platform for African countries to showcase industrial potential, promote value addition, and foster partnerships that will strengthen the continent’s manufacturing base.

It also aims to link education and industry by promoting technical skills, innovation and practical technology transfer for young people.

The Ministry of Education’s support is expected to give significant impetus to the proposal, given its role in skills training, technical and vocational education, and human capital development, which are central to the ISWA agenda.

If approved, the hosting of ISWA in Ghana is expected to reinforce the country’s contribution to Africa’s industrial development agenda and open up new opportunities for collaboration in manufacturing, innovation and skills transfer, while positioning Ghana as a hub for industrial dialogue and creative enterprise during AFESTA.
