Students to Stay Home as GES Declares October 30 as National CPD Day For Private School Teachers

Private school students across the country will stay home on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the Ghana Education Service (GES) has declared the day a National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day for private school teachers.

The declaration was contained in a letter from GES Headquarters dated October 13, 2026, signed by Deputy Director-General (Management Services), Prof. Smile Dzisi (Mrs.), for the Director-General.

According to the letter, the decision follows a request by the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) and the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) for the day to be set aside as a National CPD Day for all private schools, with the day observed as a holiday for learners.

GES says the Director-General had granted approval for the training to be held under the theme: “Mental Health and Psychosocial Well-being of Teachers.”

The training is intended to equip teachers with practical strategies to promote their mental health and well-being, enhance their resilience, and foster a supportive school environment.

Regional Directors of Education have been directed to inform all Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education and ensure coordination for smooth implementation.

The Metro/Municipal/District Directors are to liaise with District Training Officers to coordinate, organise and monitor the participation of private schools in their respective districts.
