Abrepo Junction Handed Over to Contractor for Underpass Project — Regional Minister

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has disclosed that the planned underpass project at Abrepo Junction has been officially awarded to a contractor.

He reported this to the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Sunday, October 11, 2026, during the seventh Akwasidae Festival at the Manhyia Palace.

Leading the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council delegation to the event, he informed the King about last week’s evacuation and clearing of occupants from the site to pave the way for the project.

According to him, the site has since been handed over to the contractor for immediate commencement of work.

The project, he noted, forms a vital component of the broader Suame Interchange project.

“We will be constructing an underpass at Abrepo Junction to ease traffic congestion. The site has been cleared and handed over to the contractor,” he stated.

Reporting on the three ongoing overpasses, the Regional Minister indicated that progress remains steady.

“As I reported during the last Akwasidae, the President wants the three flyovers that form part of the Suame Interchange to be completed promptly. Construction has progressed from Abusuakruwa through Old Suame up to the Kwasi Oppong area.”

“After these three overpasses, the contractor will begin work on another overpass at the Krofrom traffic light to prevent traffic buildup in that area. In due time, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Chief Executive will clear the site for work to commence,” he added.

He further noted that the final link to the Suame project is the expansion of the Mampong–Asonomaso Nkwanta road.

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to inspect these ongoing works in the Ashanti Region following his tour of the Ahafo Region.

The Minister was accompanied to the palace by Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), as well as heads of various security agencies in the region.
