UNIDO To Roll Out New 5-Year Industrial Plan For Ghana From 2027

Ghana’s industrial transformation agenda is set for a major boost as the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) prepares to roll out a new five-year Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) from 2027.

UNIDO Country Representative in Ghana, Dr Emmanuel Kalenzi, disclosed this when the organisation paid a courtesy call on the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Dr Kalenzi said the visit was to strengthen ties with the NDPC, which he described as a key national partner, and to ensure UNIDO’s interventions are aligned with Ghana’s national priorities.

He said the new PCP will be developed through broad consultations with national institutions and will focus on high-impact areas including agro-industrial value chains and industrial parks, support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), job creation, investment promotion and trade, industrial policy and skills development, as well as circular economy, renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Responding, Director-General of the NDPC, Dr Audrey Smock Amoah, said the proposed focus areas align directly with government’s 2026-2029 policy framework centred on job creation, accountability and shared prosperity.

She welcomed the initiative and said the Commission is ready to support its development, noting NDPC’s mandate to coordinate national development planning and align sector, regional and district plans with the national framework.

Dr Amoah also assured the UNIDO delegation that the Commission would designate a focal person to facilitate engagement with its technical teams, stressing the importance of mutual learning and institutional capacity building.
