Central Market Kotodwehemaa Commits to Service of Asantehemaa

Kumasi Central Market Kotodwehemaa, Nana Ama Achiaamaa, has pledged her commitment to the service of the Palace of the Asantehemaa, Nana Yaa Akyaa II.

She was formally introduced to Her Majesty together with her deputy, Madam Agartha Osei, at the Manhyia Palace on October 6, 2026.

They were led by the Central Market Queen, Nana Yaa Fowaa, and accompanied by various commodity queens and traders.

Introducing her, Nana Yaa Fowaa recalled that during their last visit to the Palace to introduce themselves to the Asantehemaa and reaffirm their loyalty, the kotodwehemaa was absent.

She said her resolve to ensure the Palace receives the requisite homage informed her decision to lead the introduction of the traders’ leader.

“Our livelihood depends on Asantehemaa’s grace, and I am fully dedicated to ensuring traders fulfil all their obligations to the Palace,” she said.

Acknowledging the restriction on beef within the precincts of the Palace, Nana Yaa Fowaa noted that requests for meat by Palace officials and for Palace activities would be duly honoured when needed outside the Palace.

“We know that beef is banned from entering, but during any occasion when the Palace will need it outside, it will be honoured. She will also bring other commodities to serve here,” she added.

The Asantehemaa, Nana Yaa Akyaa II, welcomed the traders’ leader.
