Two Dead, Fourteen Injured in Violence at Nchiraa

The Wenchi Divisional Police have restored calm following disturbances which erupted at Nchiraa in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region during its Yam festival celebration, leaving two dead and fourteen injured.

The incident occurred on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the four-way junction at Nchiraa, according to a press release issued on October 5, 2026, by the Bono Regional Police Command.

According to the police, two persons died, and thirteen persons, including a police officer, sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the disturbances occurred after the Yam festival celebration on October 3, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m., after the programme had ended.

The disturbances broke out while Nana Tabiri Yaw II and his sub-chiefs were being escorted to his palace, where there was a gunshot, the statement said.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Police say patrols have been intensified in Nchiraa and the situation remains calm.

The Bono Regional Police Command has assured the public that every effort is being made to arrest any individual involved in the disturbances.
