Ablakwa Assesses Conditions of Ghanaian Visa Applicants at Over 20 Embassies

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has embarked on a working visit to assess the conditions of Ghanaian visa applicants at over 20 embassies and visa application centres.
In a Facebook post, Mr Ablakwa said the working tour offered him firsthand experience of the current situation and allowed him to have direct conversations with fellow citizens about their experiences.
He said he will be engaging Heads of Missions in the coming days on his findings and observations with the objective of working together to secure improvements.
It will be recalled that in his first month in office as Foreign Minister, he engaged with diplomatic missions and urged them to protect the dignity and welfare of Ghanaian visa applicants, address long waiting periods for appointments, and ensure adequate arrangements are made to prevent applicants from being exposed and left at the mercy of the weather.
“I must acknowledge that substantial progress has been made by some missions; however, others must do more,” he noted.
Mr Ablakwa emphasised that it is the prerogative of diplomatic missions to determine who qualifies for their visas and that he shall not interfere with that; nonetheless, they must take concrete steps to ensure the dignity of Ghanaians is safeguarded.
