S/R: Occupants Escape Unhurt as Bus Loaded With Electrical Materials Catches Fire

Occupants aboard a Yutong bus loaded with electrical materials escaped unhurt after the vehicle caught fire at Gbogdaa in the Savannah Region on Sunday.

The bus, with registration number GS 8482-17, was reportedly conveying electrical materials and other items when the incident occurred.

Preliminary information from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) suggests the fire started after an engine oil line split, causing oil to spill onto hot engine components and ignite.

Firefighters who arrived at the scene at 8:30 a.m. brought the blaze under control and completely extinguished it by 10:30 a.m.

The fire extensively damaged the passenger compartment, roof, windows, seats and other parts of the bus.

No casualties were recorded, while further assessment and investigation are underway to determine the exact circumstances and full extent of the damage.
