2026 Africa Girls Can Code Programme Ends In Ashanti Region

The 2026 Africa Girls Can Code (AGCC) Programme has successfully ended at the Ashanti Regional GIFEC Head Office in Kwadaso, after five days of intensive digital skills training.

The programme, which commenced on September 28 and ended on October 2, 2026, is designed to advance digital inclusion, ICT literacy and female participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by providing young girls with practical exposure to coding and other relevant digital competencies.

Out of 50 participants selected across the Ashanti Region, 32, representing 64 per cent of the total beneficiaries, were from the Asokore Mampong Municipality.

The intervention forms part of broader efforts to bridge the gender digital divide, strengthen digital literacy and create sustainable pathways for young women to participate meaningfully in Ghana’s rapidly evolving digital economy.

Appreciation has been expressed to the Government of Ghana, the Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong, Hon. Ben Abdallah Alhassan, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the CEO/Administrator of GIFEC, Dr Sofo Rashid Tanko Computer, the GIFEC Coordinator for Asokore Mampong Municipality, Salifu Abubakari (B. Bala), and all stakeholders whose contributions made the programme a success.

Beyond the acquisition of technical skills, the AGCC programme is said to be helping to develop a new generation of digitally empowered young women with the knowledge, confidence and competencies required to pursue further education, innovation, entrepreneurship and careers within the ICT and technology ecosystem.
