Liberia Taps Ghana’s GhIPSS Model as Central Bank Governor Visits BoG

The Central Bank of Liberia is seeking to replicate Ghana’s successful payment systems infrastructure as it moves to strengthen its own framework.

This came to light when the Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, Mr Henry F. Saamoi, led a delegation to the Bank of Ghana at Bank Square on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

The visit, aimed at deepening cooperation between the two central banks, follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier this year to promote capacity building, technical cooperation, and knowledge sharing.

At the meeting chaired by the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, the Liberian delegation expressed keen interest in learning from Ghana’s experience in developing its payment systems.

A key focus was the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS). The Liberians want to draw insights from the processes, institutional arrangements, implementation experiences, and lessons learned in building GhIPSS.

Mrs Asante-Asiedu reaffirmed the Bank of Ghana’s commitment to supporting Liberia through sustained collaboration, technical assistance, and knowledge sharing.

She stressed the importance of peer learning, regional cooperation, and capacity building in fostering resilient and efficient financial systems across Africa.
