Accra-Kumasi Bypasses Back on Track as Contractors Return to Site- Roads Ministry

Construction works on the Accra-Kumasi Bypasses have resumed in full, with all contractors now back on site across the various sections of the project, according to Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza.

During an inspection tour of the project sites, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the bypasses.

“This road project will be completed, just like our other priority projects. This is also a priority project for the government,” he reiterated.

He reported that the Osino South Bound bypass was 77.0% complete while the Osino North Bound stood at 70.0%.

The Anyinam South Bound, he said, was 74.6% complete with the Anyinam North Bound almost finished at 99.0% whiles the Enyiresi South Bound and North Bound were at 65.0% and 64.0% respectively, with the Konongo South Bound at 74.0% completion and the Konongo North Bound at 60.0%.

Meanwhile, the Minister said rehabilitation works on the existing Accra-Kumasi Highway are ongoing as contractors handling the rehabilitation are carrying out sectional maintenance of the heavily deteriorated portions of the road, which will be followed by an asphaltic overlay on the entire corridor.

Hon. Agbodza appealed to motorists using the highway to exercise patience and drive cautiously as government works to address congestion and improve road safety.

“All drivers on the existing Accra-Kumasi Highway, please exercise patience. We need you alive. Let us not use haste, overspeeding, and wrong manoeuvres to lose any life. We are going to complete this project and create more capacity so that you can drive at a more consistent speed between Accra and Kumasi,” he emphasized.

He said that all bypass works are targeted for completion by the end of 2027.
