Ghana Hosting Global Nutrition Conference Will Boost Food Security Efforts – Veep

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang says Ghana is leveraging its hosting of a major global nutrition conference to strengthen domestic food production and integrate nutrition into preventive healthcare.

She made the remarks when she opened the 2026 Micronutrient Forum 7th Global Conference in Accra.

In a post on Facebook, the Vice President said Ghana is pleased to host the important global conversation, to share its experiences, and to learn from others.

“Malnutrition remains a global challenge that requires a coordinated approach across health, agriculture, education, local government, research and the private sector,” Prof Opoku-Agyemang said.

She said Ghana’s approach recognises this connection, pointing to two key government programmes.

“Through the Feed Ghana Programme, Government is working to strengthen domestic food production and build a more resilient and self-sufficient food system. Through Free Primary Healthcare, we also have an opportunity to integrate nutrition more deliberately into preventive healthcare, identify nutritional risks early, and address them before they develop into more serious health conditions,” she stated.

The Vice President noted that sustainable financing and strong partnerships will be essential as many countries face fiscal pressures compounded by climate shocks.

“Most importantly, our interventions must remain centred on the people whose lives we seek to improve,” she added.

She commended the organisers, partners, and participants for bringing the conference together, and expressed optimism that its deliberations will inform practical and sustainable solutions.

The conference brought together stakeholders from around the world to advance collective action on nutrition and micronutrient deficiencies.
