Births and Deaths Registry Begins 2024, 2025 Vital Statistics Reports Finalisation
The Births and Deaths Registry (BDR) has commenced a workshop in Accra to prepare and finalise the 2024 and 2025 Statistical Reports on Birth and Death Registration.
The workshop, supported by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), brings together statistics and research experts from the BDR and key partner institutions, including the Ghana Statistical Service, Ghana Health Service and Ghana Police Service.
According to the Registry, the exercise seeks to strengthen the analysis, validation and presentation of birth and death registration data and ensure that reliable and timely vital statistics are made available to support evidence-based planning, policy formulation and national development.
The preparation and publication of these reports also form part of the Registry’s commitment to strengthening the production and dissemination of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) in Ghana.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths, Dr Seth Bosompim Kissi, expressed the Registry’s appreciation to UNECA for its support and emphasised the importance of reliable birth and death statistics to national development.
He reaffirmed the Registry’s commitment to fulfilling its mandate of producing accurate, reliable and timely vital statistics to support national planning and decision-making.
On behalf of UNECA, Mr Molla Hunegnaw Asmare reaffirmed the organisation’s readiness to support civil registration authorities in strengthening the production of statistics and developing effective data pipelines to support national development.
The Head of Statistics, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, Madam Constance Clara Anani, expressed profound gratitude to UNECA on behalf of the Acting Registrar of Births and Deaths for the support towards the preparation of the reports.
She also welcomed all participating institutions and experts and encouraged them to contribute meaningfully towards the successful completion of the exercise.
