Philippines to Open Embassy in Ghana – Ablakwa

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has disclosed that the Government of the Philippines will open an Embassy in Ghana later this year for the first time in the history of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Mr. Ablakwa made the announcement in a Facebook post after holding a meeting with the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Her Excellency Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

“I have held an impactful meeting with the well-regarded Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Her Excellency Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, on the sidelines of the UNGA in New York,” he wrote.

According to the Minister, he conveyed Ghana’s commendation to the Government of the Philippines for the decision to establish a diplomatic mission in Accra.

The two sides also agreed to deepen trade and investment cooperation between Ghana and the Philippines, convene business fora in both countries, and establish a chamber of commerce to drive private sector engagement.

Mr Ablakwa said Ghana and the Philippines further agreed to exchange ideas and expertise on labour mobility agreements.

“I look forward to hosting my distinguished counterpart shortly following my invitation to her to visit Ghana as we advance our cooperation,” he added.
