43 Ghanaian Nurses Leave For Jamaica Under Managed Migration Policy

A total of 43 Ghanaian nurses have departed Ghana for Jamaica under the Government’s Health Worker Managed Migration Policy.

The group, comprising professional nurses, left the country on Sunday as part of a bilateral labour mobility arrangement between Ghana and Jamaica aimed at providing structured and safe migration opportunities for health workers.

The departure marks the first batch of nurses to benefit from the policy, which seeks to regulate the recruitment and deployment of Ghanaian health professionals abroad while protecting the country’s health system and ensuring improved conditions and welfare for migrating workers.

The Managed Migration Policy is designed to ensure that migration of health workers is mutually beneficial, well-coordinated, and aligned with Ghana’s health workforce needs.

Government says the framework prevents irregular and exploitative recruitment, guarantees decent work conditions in destination countries, and promotes knowledge and skills transfer upon return.

The partnership is part of efforts to create employment opportunities, promote skills exchange, and strengthen healthcare systems in both countries.
