Parliament’s Roads and Transport Committee Advocates Support to Sustain Reforms at MMT, DVLA

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Roads and Transport has advocated for enhanced support for Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT) and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

This follows members’ oversight tour of the institutions during which they expressed satisfaction with reforms and operational progress at the agencies.

At MMT, the Committee said it was impressed with the company’s progress, particularly the deployment and utilisation of its newly acquired buses.

While acknowledging the operational challenges facing the state transport company, members described the improvements as encouraging and said they require the necessary support to be sustained.

At the DVLA, the Committee commended the Authority for ongoing reforms to improve vehicle registration and related services.

Members stressed the need to support the Authority’s modernisation agenda to enhance efficiency and service delivery.

The Committee further highlighted the need for effective collaboration between the DVLA and the new road tolling system, noting that accurate vehicle data will be critical to its effective implementation and management.

As part of the visit, members inspected the DVLA’s printing facility where registration documents and related materials are produced, and expressed satisfaction with its operations and presentation.

The two-day exercise forms part of Parliament’s oversight mandate to assess institutional performance, identify challenges, and support measures to improve efficiency and public service delivery across the transport sector.
