Government Shifts Focus to Implementation to Drive Industrial Competitiveness

The government of Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Ghana’s industrial sector through reliable energy, digital innovation, local value addition and targeted support for strategic industries.
The Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi, said government is shifting from policy formulation to implementation through initiatives targeting textiles and garments, pharmaceuticals, automotive components and agribusiness.
He said this at the 2026 Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition (GISE) in Accra, on behalf of the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare.
The summit is under the theme: “Driving Sustainable Export-Led Industrial Growth through Energy Reliability and Digital Innovation”.
Hon. Ahi said the country’s economic recovery has provided a strong foundation for industrial growth, citing an increase in foreign direct investment from $652 million in 2024 to $2.62 billion in 2025 and six per cent real GDP growth in 2025.
He noted that initiatives such as the 24-Hour Economy, Rapid Industrialisation for Jobs Initiative and Feed the Industry Programme were aimed at boosting production, creating jobs and increasing Ghana’s export competitiveness.
The President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Dr Pharma Kofi Nsiah-Poku, called for policy consistency, regulatory clarity and improved access to industrial financing.
He urged stakeholders to translate discussions at the summit into concrete actions to address energy challenges, promote digital transformation and strengthen Ghana’s export strategy.
The EU Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Rune Skinnebach, said the EU was keen to see more “Made in Ghana” products on European markets, adding that the EU remained committed to supporting Ghana’s industrial ambitions and helping local businesses access international markets.
The ninth GISE, organised by the AGI, brings together government, businesses and development partners to promote investment, innovation and export-led industrial growth.
