Gender Ministry Supports Flood Survivor Who Lost Two Children

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has extended support to Bridget, a survivor of the devastating June 2026 floods in Accra, to help rebuild her life following the tragic loss of her two children, home, and means of livelihood.

Under the leadership of the Sector Minister, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the intervention seeks to provide both immediate relief and sustained support to Bridget as she begins the process of recovery.

As part of the support package, the Ministry provided one year’s rent to give her a secure place to stay.

Through the support of the Hon. Minister, the Ministry also provided start-up capital to enable her to re-establish a livelihood and engage in business, with the aim of helping her regain her financial independence and gradually rebuild her life.

Beyond the material support, a Clinical Psychologist from the Ministry will provide periodic psychosocial support to help her cope with the trauma and grief associated with the loss of her children.

The Ministry expressed appreciation to all individuals, organisations and well-wishers who have reached out to Bridget since the tragedy with various forms of support, offering her much-needed relief and hope.

“For Bridget, the journey ahead will not be easy, but with a place to call home, support to restart her livelihood, and someone to walk her through the healing process, she now has a stronger foundation from which to begin again,” the Ministry stated.
