N/R: Police Arrest Three Suspected Kidnappers
The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, alias Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.
The suspects, Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28, were arrested on September 29, 2026, at different locations in Sang in the Mion District.
Preliminary investigations established that the victim was abducted on 25th September 2026 by four armed men who attacked him and his brother at their residence. The suspects later contacted the victim’s family and demanded GH¢100,000 for his release.
The victim, however, managed to escape from his captors and was taken to a clinic in Sambu for medical attention.
The Police proceeded to the facility, where they found and engaged the victim.
He told the Police that he had been taken to an undisclosed location and kept under guard by armed men, but later managed to escape and was assisted to safety by some farmers in Sambu.
The victim subsequently identified all three arrested suspects from their photographs. Further investigations indicate that the suspects are connected to other robbery incidents in the area.
The three suspects are currently in Police custody, assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
