Four Arrested For Kidnapping, Torturing Man Over Alleged Fraud At Assin Fosu
The Central North Regional Police Command has arrested four persons for allegedly kidnapping, torturing and extorting money from a man over an alleged fraud at Assin Fosu.
The suspects are Mavis Badu Acheampong, Charles Doku, Oteng Baffour and one other, with others including a senior military officer who is said to be the husband of Mavis Badu Acheampong, currently at large.
According to the police, on September 3, 2026, the victim, Bismarck Amo, allegedly defrauded Mavis Badu Acheampong of an unspecified amount of money.
Mavis, police said, connived with her husband, who is currently not in the country and lured the victim from his residence in Assin Fosu to Kumasi via telephone, where he was forcibly kidnapped with the help of the other suspects.
Confirming the arrest in a statement signed by ASP Francis Onyina of the Public Affairs Directorate, Central North Region, the police said all four arrested suspects are in tight custody and are being processed for court.
A manhunt has been launched for the senior military officer and other accomplices at large.
Background
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects held Mr Amo hostage at Mavis’s private residence from September 6 to September 11, 2026, and subjected him to severe torture.
The suspects filmed the abuse and sent videos to the victim’s family to demand a ransom of GH¢45,000.00, claiming it was to cover the defrauded amount and search expenses.
The family, police said, paid GH¢19,500.00 via mobile money, but the suspects refused to release him and demanded an additional GH¢30,500.00, threatening to execute him.
To avoid police tracking, the syndicate used their own mobile phones for all communications with the family.
The case was reported to the Regional CID in Assin Fosu on September 8, 2026, after which the police launched “Operation Rescue the Victim and Arrest the Perpetrators.”
On September 11, 2026, as police closed in, the suspects attempted to move the victim to an undisclosed location. They instructed a driver to dump him by the roadside.
Police tactical teams intercepted them mid-transit, rescued the victim — who was partially unconscious and covered in severe bruises — and arrested the four suspects.
Mr Amo was rushed to a medical facility where he remains on admission under police escort.
The police warned the public against taking the law into their own hands, stating that such acts are severe crimes regardless of provocation or financial loss.
