Asantehemaa Hosts High-Level Female Gov’t Officials
The Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Yaa Akyaa II, has hosted a delegation of high-level female government officials at the Manhyia Palace.
The meeting took place on September 14, 2026.
The delegation, led by Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Deputy Chief of Staff, included Nana Yaa Jantuah, Presidential Aide; Rita Odeley Sowah, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs; Hajia Shamima Muslim, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson; and Matilda Asare Asiedu, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
Also present were Pamela Graham, Auditor-General; Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, Chief Fire Officer; COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department; Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund; Getrude Emefa Donkor, CEO of Ghana Gold Board Jewellery; Felicia Adjei, Kintampo South MP; and Faustilove Appiah Kannin, Obuasi West MCE.
Goodwill Message
The purpose of the visit was to convey their goodwill and congratulatory message to Her Majesty.
“Your role is therefore enormous, but we trust that Odomankoma and our ancestors will bless your reign with wisdom, courage and fortitude to discharge this divine assignment for Asanteman,” Nana Oye Bampoe Addo said in a speech on behalf of the delegation.
Partnership
They further described the reign of Nana Yaa Akyaa II as a call from the ancestors for close partnership and unity among the female leadership, referencing the election of the country’s first female Vice President, H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, as well as the appointment of several women to key government positions.
They emphasised that this was a defining moment rather than a coincidence.
“This is more than coincidence; it is a call from the ancestors for close partnership and unity among the female leadership of our nation. We have every confidence that you will be the unifier you have already shown yourself to be,” they said.
Modern War
They also sought the support of the Asantehemaa in the fight against domestic violence, harmful cultural practices and injustices, which they described as modern wars confronting women and children.
“Nanahemaa, beyond being a unifier, your reign is also an arrowhead of bravery for all women. There are modern wars our women, children and the aged wage daily – domestic violence, harmful cultural practices, and the injustices that come with modern technology,” they stated.
They noted that the leadership, wisdom and counsel of the Asantehemaa remain their source of strength in confronting these challenges.
Meanwhile, they pledged themselves to the service of Asanteman and Ghana.
“We have come to our mother’s feet to begin this journey together, in shared vision and shared mandate. You may count on us as you begin a successful reign. Long live Nanahemaa. Long live Asanteman. Long live Ghana,” they said.
Welcome
The Asantehemaa warmly welcomed her guests and assured them that her doors will remain open to them whenever her counsel and direction are required.
She further blessed their endeavours.
