Govt Committed to Ensuring Ease of Doing Business-Trade Minister Assures Cement Manufacturers

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has assured the business community that the Government of Ghana, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, remains committed to creating a conducive business environment to support private sector growth and national economic development.

The Minister gave the assurance during an inspection tour of the Tema Port on Friday, September 11, 2026, together with the Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to assess the berthing of the vessels that bring clinker to the Tema Port, causing congestion and adding additional cost to the cement manufacturers due to demurrage.

Hon. Ofosu-Adjare further explained that the visit formed part of the government’s efforts to engage directly with industry players and identify practical solutions to challenges affecting the smooth running of businesses.

She said the government recognises the important role of cement manufacturers in Ghana’s industrial development and will continue to work closely with them to address concerns relating to the offloading of clinker and other raw materials at the port.

The Hon. Minister disclosed that the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), through the Ministry of Transport, has agreed to dredge an additional berth at the Tema Port to accommodate larger vessels.

She noted that the intervention would help reduce delays in the discharge of clinker, improve efficiency at the port, and ultimately lower the cost of doing business.

“We will continue to collaborate with industry to find lasting solutions to challenges affecting productivity and competitiveness,” she said.

The Trade Minister, however, urged cement manufacturers to reciprocate the government’s efforts by ensuring that prices of cement are not increased arbitrarily, adding that maintaining affordable prices is critical to protecting consumers and sustaining economic growth.
