Fighting Financial Crime Requires Intelligence That Moves As Fast As Criminals – CID Boss
The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, says fighting financial crime requires intelligence that moves as fast as the criminals do.
She made the remarks when she received a delegation from the INTERPOL Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption Centre (IFCACC) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at the CID Headquarters.
The engagement focused on strengthening Ghana’s response to financial crime and corruption.
DCOP Donkor described the meeting as particularly important, noting that financial crime is becoming increasingly sophisticated, technology-driven, and transnational.
She said strengthening intelligence, financial forensics, international information sharing, and the capacity of investigators will enhance the CID’s ability to follow the money, identify criminal networks, recover evidence, and bring offenders to justice.
The CID boss stressed that collaboration with international partners such as INTERPOL and JICA is critical to building a robust system to combat financial crimes and corruption in Ghana.
