Accra International Airport Adjudged Best Airport at Departures in Africa

The Accra International Airport (AIA) has been adjudged Best Airport at Departures – Africa in the 2-5 Million Passengers Category, and Customer Experience Accredited Airport – Level 1.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) was honoured with the two distinguished awards at the 8th Airports Council International (ACI) World Airport Experience Summit held in Istanbul, Turkey, from August 31 to September 4, 2026.
Receiving the awards, the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, said it is an honour and a privilege for Ghana to receive the global recognition.
She noted that the awards were achieved through teamwork and collaboration across multiple stakeholders in the airport ecosystem and congratulated all staff at Accra International Airport for the feat.
“These awards could not have been won working independently. It is a result of teamwork and collaboration across multiple stakeholders in the airport ecosystem. I congratulate all staff at Accra International Airport for this achievement. These awards are not the end of the journey but a reminder that we must continue to raise the bar,” Mrs Opare said.
This year’s Summit was held under the theme “Airport Experience: The New Era,” which examined the next evolution of human-centred travel. Discussions focused on the role of hospitality and how leading airports are placing people at the heart of their operations, organisational culture and service delivery.
A highlight of the Summit was the Gala and Awards Ceremony celebrating the world’s best airports for customer experience. Over 100 top-performing airports were recognised with Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards and Customer Experience Accreditations.
The ACI World Airport Customer Experience Accreditation Programme is designed to build the long-term capacity of airports to enhance customer experience management. Participating airports undergo a comprehensive review and training process that includes stakeholder and employee engagement as well as staff development.
It remains the only accreditation programme in the airport industry that provides a 360-degree view of customer experience management, while the Airports Council International Airport Service Quality Programme is the world’s leading benchmark for airport passenger satisfaction.
