Trade Minister Warns Against Foreign Investors against Retail Trade

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has warned foreign investors against engaging in retail trade in Ghana, stressing that it is a violation of the country’s laws.

According to her, the government remains open to legitimate foreign investment and trade but will not tolerate activities that breach the law.

“We are open to everything legitimate. We invite you to trade and invest within the law, but do not violate Ghana’s laws by engaging in retail trade,” she stated.

Hon. Ofosu-Adjare issued the warning when she received a report from the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) and the Nigeria Union of Traders Association (NUTA) in Accra on Monday, September 7, 2026.

She encouraged foreign investors to explore opportunities in agribusiness, manufacturing, commercial contract farming and agro-processing.

The Minister said the government is committed to ensuring a fair, business-friendly environment while protecting Ghanaian businesses and promoting industrialisation and sustainable economic development.
