Funds for Accra-Kumasi Expressway to be Ready By End Of Year – Felix Kwakye Ofosu

Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has provided assurance that funds for the new Accra-Kumasi Expressway will be ready by the end of this year, the Government Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced.

It comes as 170 kilometres of the corridor have already been cleared.

In a Facebook post, he reported that the infrastructure will be the single largest piece of infrastructure built by any Ghanaian government.

“It will be the first time in Ghana’s history that a project of this scale and magnitude is being funded fully with our own funds and without reliance on some external assistance,” he added.

The new expressway is expected to transform travel between Accra and Kumasi, significantly cutting down travel time, improving road safety, and easing the movement of goods and people along Ghana’s busiest economic corridor.

The Accra-Kumasi road is a critical artery for trade and commerce, linking the capital city to the Ashanti Region and onward to the northern parts of the country and neighbouring landlocked countries.

The government says the project forms part of its broader infrastructure drive to accelerate economic growth and demonstrate fiscal self-reliance in financing major national projects.
