Kumasi Gives Asantehene a Grand Welcome
Kumasi paid its respects on Thursday afternoon as residents, students, and traders turned out in full force to accord a grand welcome to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, upon his return from a working visit to the United States of America.
Students left their schools, traders stepped out of their shops, and residents emerged from their homes to line the principal streets as His Majesty’s convoy made its way toward the Manhyia Palace. Jubilant crowds waved Asanteman flags, giving the King an enthusiastic and colourful welcome.
The royal convoy travelled through Krofom, Suame Roundabout, Abrepo Junction, Bantama, and Komfo Anokye (popularly known as Gee Roundabout), continuing on to the Otumfuo Roundabout at Kejetia.
From Kejetia, the procession moved past Hello FM onto Prudential Bank Road, turned right toward the Central Police Station, and connected to the Military Museum.
Asantehene then proceeded past the Military Museum and in front of Poku Trading, heading toward the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
From the KMA, the procession continued toward the Asafo Interchange, passing through the Asafo Labour Roundabout, Amakom, WAEC, and Akwatia Line before finally arriving at the Manhyia Palace.
For many in attendance, it was a rare and deeply cherished opportunity to see the King up close—a moment far too significant for anyone to miss.
The atmosphere crackled with excitement as crowds lined the streets, eager to catch a personal glimpse of Asantehene.
During his visit to the United States, His Majesty delivered a lecture at Howard University in Washington, D.C., on the theme “Governance, Cultural Preservation, Traditional Leadership and the Enduring Connections Between Ghana and the Global African Diaspora.”
He also observed the Akwasidae festival and held high-level engagements with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, among other key activities.
