Asantehene Returns to Kumasi After US Trip

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has returned to Ghana following a nearly two-week working visit to the United States of America.

His Majesty’s aircraft landed at the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi around 12:00 PM on September 3, 2026.

He was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour by personnel from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), and the Ghana Police Service.

Accompanied by the Guard Commander, Asantehene inspected the guard before proceeding toward a gathering of traditional leaders, government officials, and students who had assembled at the airport to welcome him.

After greeting some members of the crowd with handshakes, he departed the airport for a ceremonial parade through Kumasi’s principal streets, heading toward Manhyia Palace.

During his visit to the United States, His Majesty delivered a lecture at Howard University in Washington, D.C., on the theme “Governance, Cultural Preservation, Traditional Leadership and the Enduring Connections Between Ghana and the Global African Diaspora.”

Additionally, he observed the Akwasidae festival and held a high-level engagement with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., alongside other key engagements.
