Asantehene Applauds U.S. Diaspora for Teaching Children Asante Heritage
The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed deep delight over the active cultural transmission among diaspora youth in the United States of America.
His Majesty made the observation during his recent official visit to the country, where he addressed attendees at a historic Akwasidae festival celebrated in America on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Observing the prominent involvement of young people in the traditional proceedings, he noted that witnessing the youth embrace their roots brings immense hope for the future of the Kingdom.
“I am particularly glad that your sons and daughters are learning our culture. It gives me much hope.”
He revealed that plans to host the sacred festival on American soil were initiated over a year ago, expressing gratitude to Providence and the Golden Stool for bringing the vision to fruition and allowing him to reunite with Asanteman in the diaspora.
“I thank God and the Sika Dwa [Golden Stool] for the opportunity to meet my grandchildren in the diaspora today,” the Asantehene said.
“Arrangements were put in place over a year ago for me to host the Akwasidae here. The designated day fell today, and I directed that it be announced to all my people across America and beyond.”
Otumfuo also commended the delegation of traditional leaders who travelled with him, including Paramount Chiefs and Queen Mothers from the Ashanti, Bono, and Ahafo regions, alongside Kumasi traditional elders for demonstrating solidarity with the diaspora community.
“We united to come and celebrate the Akwasidae with you. The Queen Mothers are also present here with their entourage, which attests to our deep love for our kindred in the diaspora,” the King added.
“You have likewise shown great love and unity in coming out to embrace us.”
