UK Trade Commissioner Seeks Deeper Trade Ties During Manhyia Visit

The United Kingdom is pursuing deeper trade and investment ties with the Ashanti Region following a high-level visit to the Manhyia Palace.

The UK’s Trade Commissioner for Africa, Alastair Long paid a visit to the Manhyia Palace on September 22, 2026.

He was received by Asante Mamponghene Daasebre Osei Bonsu II on behalf of the King of the Asante Kingdom.

The meeting highlighted the UK-Ghana partnership’s continued drive to create opportunities for trade, investment and shared prosperity beyond the national capital.

Discussions also focused on expanding bilateral trade, attracting British investment into the Ashanti Region, supporting economic development and strengthening the impact of UK-supported projects in the region.

According to the UK High Commission in a statement, the Manhyia engagement signals the UK’s intent to anchor its commercial diplomacy in Ghana’s traditional economic heartland and leverage Asanteman’s influence to unlock new investment opportunities.
