Police Bring Violence at New Winneba Under Control

The Ghana Police Service has brought under control violent clashes at New Winneba after an irate mob attacked residents in the township on Tuesday morning.

It comes after the Police from the Winneba Divisional Headquarters and Agona Swedru District Patrols have been deployed to control the situation.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has also deployed a reinforcement team, including two armoured vehicles from the National Headquarters, to beef up security in the area.

The Police say the situation is currently under control and that full details will be communicated later.

In a statement, the Police said on September 1, 2026, at about 1040 hours, about 300 people wielding guns, stones, cutlasses and sticks from Gomoa Oguakrom, Gomoa Yenkuadze and Gomoa Pomadze stormed the New Winneba Township.

According to the Police, the mob attacked stores and residences of the natives and caused damage to properties.

About 15 injured victims, including a police officer, have been sent to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, while 3 persons have been confirmed dead.
