E/R: Police Restore Calm at After Odwira Festival Disturbance

The Eastern Regional Police Command says calm has been restored at Larteh Ahenease in the Eastern Region following disturbances during the Ahenease Odwira Festival celebration on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
In a press release issued on Sunday, October 4, 2026, and signed by Chief Inspector Bridget Opoku of the Public Affairs Unit, the Command said additional police personnel have been deployed to the town to intensify security and maintain peace and order.
According to the police, the disturbance broke out between factions during the festival activities on Saturday, leading to tension in the community.
“The Eastern Regional Police Command has restored calm at Larteh, following some disturbances during the Ahenease Odwira Festival celebration on Saturday, October 3, 2026,” the statement said.
The Command said it continues to engage all stakeholders in Larteh to ensure lasting peace as the Odwira festivities continue.
It warned that it will deal firmly with any individuals who breach the peace in the region.
The Odwira Festival, celebrated by the people of Akuapem including Larteh, Akuapong, Aburi and Mamfe, marks a period of purification, thanksgiving and renewal.
Police say security has been heightened in the area to allow residents and visitors to participate in the festival safely.
