Gender Minister Charges Regional Directors To Translate Policies Into Action

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has charged Regional Directors of the Departments of Gender and Children across all 16 regions to ensure that national policies and laws translate into real impact in communities.

She gave the charge at a three-day sensitisation workshop organised by the Ministry to strengthen the capacity of its regional leadership to implement its mandate.

According to the Minister, the effectiveness of the Ministry’s work does not rest only on developing sound policies, but on how well they are understood, coordinated and implemented at the regional and local levels.

She said Regional Directors are the critical link between national-level policies and the communities they are intended to serve, and must therefore view the various laws and programmes as interconnected, not isolated interventions.

Hon. Dr Lartey urged them to use the knowledge gained to deepen stakeholder coordination within their jurisdictions and to act as advocates and ambassadors for the Ministry’s programmes, particularly in protecting rights, promoting inclusion and improving the wellbeing of vulnerable groups.

The workshop sensitised participants on key frameworks including the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024 (Act 1121), the revised National Gender Policy, the Early Childhood Care and Development Policy (2025-2029), the Revised Domestic Violence Policy (2025-2034), and the Social Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1148).

They were also taken through the Social Protection Shock Responsive Strategy, the LEAP reassessment and onboarding processes, and issues of human trafficking, with emphasis on prevention, victim protection, prosecution and rehabilitation.
