Living Under High Tension Lines Can Be Fatal – GRIDCo Warns
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has cautioned the public against living or working within its transmission line corridors, warning that such encroachment poses serious and potentially fatal risks.
In a public safety notice on its Right-of-Way (RoW) Corridors, GRIDCo explained that while 240 Volts powers homes, its transmission lines carry up to 330,000 Volts.
The company said its transmission lines run at 69,000 Volts, 161,000 Volts, 225,000 Volts and 330,000 Volts.
“That’s why living or working within the transmission line corridors is dangerous,” GRIDCo stated.
According to the power transmitter, if a transmission line or tower collapses within an encroached area, the consequences can be fatal.
GRIDCo warned that lives, livestock and property within the RoW are all exposed to serious risk.
The company stressed that a clear Right-of-Way protects lives, property and the power system.
