Ghana Considers Domestic Violence Shelter For Survivors
Plans are underway for the establishment of a dedicated shelter to provide protection and support for survivors of domestic violence in Ghana.
The proposal was a key highlight of the Second Quarter Meeting of the Domestic Violence Management Board (DVMB) convened by the Domestic Violence Secretariat (DVS) of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
The meeting, which reviewed progress on the Board’s 2026 work plan, discussed the urgent need for a safe shelter to house and support persons fleeing abusive situations.
Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat, Madam Malonin Asibi, who presented an update on the workplan, said the shelter is among the strategic priorities for the remainder of the year to enhance service delivery and safeguard vulnerable persons.
Board Chairperson, Dr Miriam Iddrisu, said sustained collaboration among stakeholders was critical to ensuring that survivors have access to effective protection and support services, including shelter.
The meeting also reviewed the status of the Board’s 2026 workplan, progress made so far, and other interventions aimed at strengthening Ghana’s response to domestic violence.
The Domestic Violence Management Board serves as the national platform for coordinating policies and interventions to prevent domestic violence and to ensure survivors receive the protection and care they need.
