Best Investment Benefits Both Investor And Host Country – Asantehene

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has asserted that the most sustainable global investments are those that deliver strong commercial returns while simultaneously building the productive capacity of the host countries.
Speaking at the Africa Business Investment Summit in Washington, D.C., on August 27, 2026, the Occupant of the Golden Stool stated that the highest standard of international investment occurs when the investor prospers, and the host society becomes measurably more capable.
He believes that international business engagements across the continent must transition into mutually beneficial partnerships that uplift local communities.
The King highlighted the sharp paradox currently facing many resource-rich African communities.
“We have agricultural land, yet we import food that could be produced locally. We produce natural wealth, yet too many communities nearby remain poor.”
He emphasised that resolving this imbalance requires a dedicated shift toward local value addition—refining mined minerals, processing harvested crops, and manufacturing goods locally for global consumption.
Otumfuo underscored that this drive for industrial self-reliance represents an invitation to create a far better framework for international collaboration rather than a turn away from global partners.
He called on corporate leaders to pair their capital with technology transfer and skills development across all key sectors, urging investors in mining and energy to build local refining and engineering capabilities, agricultural partners to establish processing and storage networks, tech firms to train local developers and managers, and health investors to expand pharmaceutical manufacturing and diagnostic capacity.
“Investment should leave a footprint that goes beyond financial statements,” His Majesty stressed, insisting that long-term corporate success must be measured by the institutions strengthened, skills transferred, and industries created.
