Investment Should Leave a Footprint That Goes Beyond Financial Statements – Otumfuo

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on global investors to move beyond traditional profit-driven models and embrace partnerships that build enduring industrial and human capacity across the African continent.

At the Africa Business Investment Summit in Washington, D.C., on August 26, 2026, His Majesty stated that the true measure of a successful enterprise lies in its ability to empower host communities while generating economic returns.

He highlighted the sharp paradox currently facing the continent.

“We have agricultural land, yet we import food that could be produced locally. We produce natural wealth, yet too many communities nearby remain poor.”

His Majesty stated that the new Africa must be built through systematic value addition, stressing that the continent’s ambition must shift from merely exporting raw materials to manufacturing finished products for domestic and global markets.

The Asantehene clarified that this push for local processing is not a rejection of international business, but an invitation to establish a higher, more sustainable standard of collaboration.

He further outlined clear expectations for global partners across key sectors, urging mining investors to help develop refining capabilities, agricultural investors to construct storage and packaging infrastructure, energy firms to strengthen local engineering skills, technology companies to train African programmers and managers, and healthcare investors to build local pharmaceutical manufacturing and research capacity.

“Investment should leave a footprint that goes beyond financial statements,” His Majesty emphasised, urging corporate leaders to leave behind resilient institutions, skilled workforces, and self-sustaining industries that endure long after initial capital matures.
