The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to promoting breast cancer awareness, early detection and support for women affected by the disease.

The Minister made this known when the Breast Society of Ghana, led by its Chairperson/Educator, Nurse Specialist Madam Enam Setsoafia, paid a courtesy call on her to discuss collaboration in advancing breast health education.

During the meeting, Madam Setsoafia highlighted the growing burden of breast cancer in Ghana and underscored the importance of sustained public education, regular breast screening and early detection in improving survival rates. She stressed that many lives could be saved through increased awareness and timely diagnosis.

The Breast Society of Ghana continues to champion nationwide awareness campaigns, community outreach, screening services, advocacy and support for persons affected by breast cancer.

Hon. Dr Lartey welcomed the delegation and commended the Society for its dedication to improving breast health outcomes through education, advocacy and screening initiatives.

The Minister noted that breast cancer remains a significant public health concern that requires a coordinated, multi-sectoral response. She emphasised that empowering women with accurate information and encouraging regular screening are essential steps toward reducing preventable deaths associated with the disease.

She further indicated that the Ministry will continue to collaborate with health institutions, civil society organisations and development partners to promote public education on breast cancer while supporting initiatives that improve the health and well-being of women and girls.

Hon. Dr Lartey also highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to integrate breast cancer awareness into its community outreach activities.

She recalled that the Ministry has, over the years, organised breast cancer sensitisation and screening exercises for market women, female inmates, school children and staff, demonstrating its commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and encouraging early detection.
