Forestry Commission, Terraformation Inc. Explore Partnership to Drive Ghana Forest Plantation Strategy
The Forestry Commission and United States-based Terraformation Inc. have begun moves to establish a national partnership to drive the collaborative execution of the Ghana Forest Plantation Strategy.
The partnership seeks to combine international expertise with the management of the Forestry Commission to accelerate environmental restoration and secure sustainable forestry practices across the country.
The Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Dr. Hugh Brown, welcomed the Terraformation delegation and expressed the Commission’s strong willingness to partner, emphasising the need to build a country-led platform to coordinate and drive the 2040 Strategy forward.
To lay the foundation for the collaboration, Damien Kuhn, Vice President of Forestry Partnerships and Development at Terraformation Inc., presented for Terraformation, while Dr. John Appah, Manager of Projects; Mr. Kwame Agyei, Manager of Plantation Investments and Extension; and Dr. Benjamin Torgbor, Manager of Operations, all of the Plantations Department of the Forest Services Division (FSD), presented on behalf of the Forestry Commission.
Their presentations covered the Commission’s current capacity, the operational framework for the national platform, the roadmap for joint engagement, focus areas and the composite Monitoring and Evaluation Framework.
Participants later engaged in interactive sessions addressing governance, core priorities, monitoring, reporting, mapping and future funding mechanisms.
On the second day, discussions recapped key areas such as seed supply, governance, financing, community practices and strengthening the national monitoring system. Participants also examined the financial needs of the Forestry Commission and agreed on immediate next steps, including the development of a full budget.
The Founder and CEO of Terraformation Inc., Mr. James Alan Daley, thanked the Forestry Commission for hosting the delegation and commended the open dialogue that allowed both organisations to share technical knowledge and strategic expertise.
He noted that the review of the roadmap, governance structure and financial requirements provided clarity needed to build a lasting partnership, and affirmed Terraformation’s commitment to work with the Forestry Commission to realise Ghana’s long-term reforestation goals.
Terraformation Inc. is a prominent US organisation dedicated to supporting native, biodiverse forest restoration projects and provides open-source management tools and training for forestry and conservation organisations.
