GPHA Disowns Fake E-Auction Of Impounded Vehicles and Goods

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has alerted the public to fraudulent posts circulating on Facebook claiming an ongoing e-auction sale of impounded vehicles and general goods.

The fake posts, which have been branded with images of tractors, heavy-duty trucks, power plants, sewing machines, containers, motorcycles and other items, claim to be from the Government of Ghana, the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the GPHA.

They invite the public to an auction at locations including Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for vehicles and general goods, Tema for general goods and vehicles, Takoradi Port for general goods and vehicles, and APM Terminal (Tema Port) for vehicles, general goods and heavy-duty machines, with contact numbers 053 885 9430 and +233 20 554 9480.

One of the fake pages uses the name “Ghana Ports & Harbours A…” with a sponsored post titled “BIG NEWS!! PUBLIC AUCTION SALES OF GENERAL GOODS AND VEHICLES” while another appears as a forwarded WhatsApp message on Facebook.

GPHA has stamped the publications as “FAKE” and is urging the public to disregard them and avoid engaging with the fraudsters.

The Authority cautioned that it does not conduct sales of impounded goods via WhatsApp or through unofficial Facebook pages and urged the public to verify any auction information only through its official channels and those of the Ghana Revenue Authority – Customs Division.
