Road Traffic Act Amendment to Reduce Crashes — Transport Minister

Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, says the government is poised to reduce road crashes in Ghana through the amendment of the Road Traffic Act 2025 and the passage of Road Traffic Regulations 2026.

He was speaking at the launch of the Fédération Internationale de l’ Automobile (FIA) Safe Helmet Initiative (SAHI) Summit in Accra.

According to him, SAHI is more than a technical engagement; it is an expression of continental solidarity because no African country can solve the problem of road crashes alone.

Hon. Nikpe noted that to achieve the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 and the ambition of Sustainable Development Goal 3.6 to halve road traffic deaths, Africa’s transport ministries, standards bureaus and road safety agencies must work in concert.

He assured that the government is ready to deepen cooperation with the Africa Road Safety Observatory and with the World Health Organisation to improve the quality, timeliness and disaggregation of Ghana’s crash data.

The initiative is aimed at reducing road crashes by providing certified, affordable and quality helmets for all motorcycle riders.
