One Rescued in Suhum Road Crash, GNFS Recovers GH¢50,000 and US$5,231

The Suhum Municipal Fire Station rescued one person trapped in a vehicle following a road traffic accident on the Accra–Kumasi Highway at Suhum Niifio on Sunday, August 16, 2026.

A six-member crew, led by STNO II Darkwah Prince, arrived at the scene at 20:03hrs to find a Ford F-150 with registration number DV B9981 and a Kia Rio with registration number AS 5401-12 involved in the crash.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service, preliminary information indicated that the Ford F-150, while overtaking, collided with the rear of the Kia Rio. The impact caused extensive damage to the Ford F-150 and partial damage to the Kia Rio.

The crew used extrication equipment to free one male casualty who was trapped in the Kia Rio. He was transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment. No deaths were recorded.

During the operation, the crew also salvaged GH¢50,000, US$5,231.81, mobile phones, power banks, National ID cards and other personal belongings from the accident scene.

The GNFS has attributed the cause of the accident to wrongful overtaking and is urging drivers to adhere strictly to road safety regulations to prevent similar incidents.

Authorities continue to caution motorists on the Accra–Kumasi Highway to exercise care, especially during overtaking.
