BoG Governor Calls for Modernised Monetary Policy Frameworks to Navigate Global Uncertainty

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, has underscored the need to modernise monetary policy frameworks to effectively respond to an increasingly uncertain global economic environment.

Speaking at the High-Level Forum on the Modernisation of Monetary Policy Formulation and Implementation on Monday, 17 August 2026, at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra, Dr Asiama outlined recent reforms by the Bank aimed at strengthening monetary policy formulation, implementation, communication, and forecasting.

“For policymakers, the challenge is not simply to respond to the shock of the day. It is to build monetary policy frameworks that are robust enough to withstand uncertainty, flexible enough to adapt to changing circumstances, and credible enough to anchor expectations,” he said.

The Governor also stressed the importance of clear communication and effective transmission of monetary policy decisions to the real economy.

“It is about reducing the distance between the policy we intend, the policy the market understands, and the policy the economy ultimately experiences,” Dr Asiama noted.

The two-day forum is bringing together central bankers and policymakers from across the region to share experiences, exchange practical ideas, and deepen collaboration on strengthening monetary policy frameworks.

Discussions at the forum are expected to focus on tools for managing inflation, enhancing policy credibility, improving forecasting models, and ensuring monetary policy effectively supports growth and financial stability amid global volatility.
