Speaker Bagbin Recalls Parliament for Urgent Business

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has directed that the House be recalled from recess to consider urgent parliamentary business.
In a letter dated Tuesday, August 12, 2026, and issued from the Office of the Speaker at Parliament House, Victoriaborg, Accra, Bagbin said the recall was made in exercise of the power conferred on him by Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana.
According to the directive, Parliament shall sit from Monday, August 24, 2026, at 12 noon, to Friday, August 28, 2026, at Parliament House in Accra.
The Speaker stated that the recall should take effect “notwithstanding anything to the contrary.”
The letter did not specify the matters to be considered, but noted that the House would reconvene solely to deliberate on urgent parliamentary business.
The recall comes as Members of Parliament were on recess and are expected to return to the chamber next week for the five-day sitting.
