Otumfuo Commends Management of UPSA for Exceptional Leadership
The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has commended the management of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) for their exceptional leadership and drive in advancing the status of the institution.
The King delivered the commendation at the Manhyia Palace during the celebration of the 6th Awukudae festival on August 12, 2026, where a delegation from the university paid a courtesy call on him.
The delegation was led by the Chancellor, Dr K. K. Sarpong, alongside Council Chairman Dr. Harry Lawson Kwaku Agbanu, Vice-Chancellor Prof. John Mawutor, Registrar Lorraine Buerkie Gyan, and former Student Albert Kan-Dapaah.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Dr K. K. Sarpong stated that the visit was primarily to express the university’s deep appreciation to the Asantehene for honouring their recent 60th-anniversary celebrations.
He noted that Otumfuo’s presence and insightful address during the anniversary significantly elevated the image and standing of the university.
“Not long ago, we celebrated 60 years and organised a series of activities,” Dr Sarpong said. “We invited Otumfuo, and he honoured us with his presence. His speech on that day elevated the university, and we are here today to officially thank him.”
Responding to the address, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed personal satisfaction with the trajectory of the university, reflecting warmly on his time as a student at the institution many years ago.
His Majesty described the rapid progress of the university as a source of great comfort and pride.
“The most comforting thing is to see your alma mater advancing after many years,” Otumfuo remarked, reflecting on his student days.
The Asantehene praised the present leadership for their strategic direction and commitment to academic excellence, encouraging them to sustain the momentum.
“Those managing the school now are doing well. Keep it up,” he added.
